Applications We Service

Five Machine Tool Applications

From CNC spindle drives to overload protection — specific applications where PV Industries components are specified by machine tool OEMs and plant maintenance teams across India.

01
MT-01  ·  CNC Lathe & Machining Centre
CNC Spindle Drive Engagement

Mechanical clutches create engagement shock that travels through spindle bearings, degrading positional accuracy and shortening bearing life. Hydraulic solutions add contamination risk.

PV Industries' single disc clutch engages the spindle on a 24V DC signal — smooth armature attraction, no torque spike, stationary field design with no slip rings. Mounts directly to IEC-standard motor flanges.

Single Disc Clutch
Torque: 7–220 Nm Voltage: 24V DC Backlash: Zero Field: Stationary — no slip rings

MT-02  ·  CNC Safety Systems
Axis Hold & Emergency Stop Safety Brake

Every CNC machine with a vertical axis carries a load that falls under gravity when the servo loses power. A de-energised servo provides no guaranteed holding torque — a mechanically independent brake is mandatory.

Spring-applied safety brake holds the axis by spring force on power loss — zero power required. 24V DC releases for normal operation. Instantaneous re-engagement on E-stop, independent of servo drive.

MT-03  ·  Rotary Axis & Fixture Design
Rotary Indexing Table Control

A rotary indexing table must rotate to the next position quickly then lock rigidly while machining forces are applied. Insufficient holding torque causes the table to deflect under cutting forces — producing dimensional variation in the machined part.

Clutch-brake combination drives the index rotation with zero backlash, then simultaneously clamps the table shaft rigidly against machining loads — no pneumatic circuit, no separate clamp mechanism.

Clutch-Brake Combination
Torque: 6–200 Nm Backlash: Zero — both Control: Separate coils Reference: HMT Machine Tools
04
MT-04  ·  Headstock & Gearbox Design
Multi-Speed Headstock Gear Selection

A multi-speed CNC headstock must shift between gear ratios for heavy roughing at low speed and finishing at high speed. Traditional gear selection requires operator intervention or complex pneumatic actuators.

Each gear ratio gets its own clutch. The CNC controller selects the required ratio by energising the coil — zero backlash, no pneumatic supply, IEC standard mounting, direct CNC panel interface.

Torque: 7–220 Nm per stage Backlash: Zero Mount: IEC motor-gearbox Reference: HMT — founding application
05
MT-06  ·  Drivetrain Protection
Tool Crash & Overload Protection

A tool collision generates an instantaneous torque spike in milliseconds — far faster than any CNC control loop. Machine designers need a device that slips at a set torque threshold and re-engages automatically when the fault is cleared.

Clutch operating in slip mode at calibrated coil current provides set-point overload protection. Armature slips when torque exceeds threshold — absorbing collision energy before it reaches the gearbox. Re-engages automatically.

Why PV Industries

The Machine Tool Supplier of Choice

Three reasons machine tool OEMs and plant maintenance teams across India specify PV Industries.

01
HMT — India's Machine Tool Benchmark

PV Industries has supplied electromagnetic clutches and safety brakes to HMT Machine Tools across six manufacturing facilities — serving defence, aerospace, railways, and automotive sectors. Multi-speed gear selection using PV clutches is a foundational application in our 45-year history, developed in partnership with HMT for their turning and milling machines.

02
Drop-in for Kendrion & Miki Pulley

Plant maintenance replacing an imported clutch or safety brake faces 8–14 week lead times from European suppliers. PV Industries' dimensions are compatible with Kendrion and Miki Pulley equivalents — no redesign required, same-week dispatch from Bengaluru stock, INR pricing with local warranty support.

03
Application Engineering Before You Specify

We confirm the correct torque range, mounting configuration, and duty cycle for your specific machine before you place an order. For overload protection applications, we set the correct slip threshold at commissioning — no guesswork, no field failures from wrong specification.

Discuss Your Machine Tool Application

Our application engineering team will confirm the right product, torque range, and mounting configuration for your CNC machine or machine tool OEM requirement.
