In an Electromagnetic Single Disc Clutch, when the current is applied the spring-loaded armature gets pulled towards the friction liner of the Rotor causing the backlash free transmission of torque. On the contrary, in an Electromagnetic Single Disc Brake, when the current is applied the spring-loaded armature gets pulled against the friction liner on the housing due to the torque causing the rotating shaft to come to a halt.
